Chartiers Township adding pickleball courts to Arnold Park
Pickleball courts will be coming to Arnold Park in Chartiers Township.
Township Manager Jodi Noble said a project recently went out for bid to construct four pickleball courts at the 40-acre park on Pike Street, described as the main active recreational spot in the township.
“It has been a request of residents,” Noble said. “It’s a growing sport nationwide and locally. We are developing four to provide our residents with a recreational opportunity. People young and old love it. It does seem to attract all ages.”
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. According to a Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) Topline Participation Report, there were 19.8 million players in 2024, a 45.8% increase from the previous year. SFIA also reported that participation ballooned by 311% from 2022 to 2024.
The four courts are planned for the area between the pavilion and Pike Street.
“Four sort of fit at the park,” Noble said. “That’s what we had room for and budgeted for. We have the money to cover the construction.”
Noble said bids are expected to be opened May 6 with a vote to award the contract by the supervisors anticipated for May 13. She said the borough has money in the budget for the project but did not want to disclose the amount during the bid process.
“We hope to be under construction sometime in the summer,” Noble said. “We’re anticipating a 60- to 90-day construction time frame, but of course it’s going to be weather dependent. It’s not a huge project in terms of time frame.
“We’re excited to be able to provide a new recreational opportunity for our residents,” she said. “We hope they will be well-received and well-utilized by the community.”
