Canonsburg council continues to search for a new borough manager with the goal of having the position filled by September.

In the interim, council President Rich Russo has been filling the role.

The previous manager, Billie Bilko, died July 1. She was appointed to the position in September.

“The search is coming along very well,” Russo said.

Also at Monday’s agenda meeting, council discussed parking vehicles in grass. The current parking ordinance forbids parking in a front or side yard unless there is a concrete or gravel pad under the vehicle. Council is looking to expand the regulations to include backyards.

“If you’re going to park vehicles in the rear yard, they need to be on some type of a pad, be it gravel or concrete, something that indicates that it’s a parking spot as opposed to just parking in the grass,” Russo said. “It’s going to help us a lot with the blight in the neighborhoods and trying to keep folks from creating junkyards in their backyard.”

When council meets Monday, it is expected to vote on the reassignment of $14,491 in demolition funds from 2024 Community Development Block Grant funding to the reconstruction of Taylor Drive. A corresponding item on Monday’s agenda is the pending approval of a $10,000 contribution for Canonsburg Streets financing, to be distributed via the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County, also to be used for the Taylor Drive project.

Council also is expected to vote on a motion to move its agenda meeting in September to Sept. 2 due to Labor Day.
