Vehicle hits South Connellsville barbershop
A South Connellsville barbershop will be closed for the near future after a vehicle crashed into the front of the building early Thursday morning.
There were no injuries in the crash on the 1600 block of Pittsburgh Street, which was reported at 4:06 a.m., according to Fayette County 911 dispatch.
The crash awoke John Prah, who lives with his wife in the two-story house where he has operated a barbershop for the past 21 years.
“We were upstairs sleeping, and it woke us up here,” he said. “We knew right away that somebody hit the house because it shook. Other than that, we’re okay, Just trying to get back to normal life. Lot of aggravation.”
Prah said the vehicle jumped the corner of the intersection and hit the front of the house, pushing the barbershop sideways and causing “a lot” of damage. Part of his porch was also damaged.
“I’ll be out of business for a little bit,” he said.
Prah has already called his contractor. As of now, he doesn’t have an estimate for what it will cost to repair the destruction.
Thursday morning, there was no information available on the cause of the crash. The street didn’t appear to be icy, Prah said.
Connellsville Patrolman Gerald Myers said Thursday afternoon the department was continuing to investigate to determine how the crash happened and if any citations or charges were warranted.
While fixing the damage will be a hassle, Prah found a bit of a bright side.
“Our car didn’t catch on fire, and I had no electrical problems here,” he said. “So that’s a good thing. It could have been really worse.”
