Washington County Commission Chairman Nick Sherman and Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania CEO Megan Hegedus cut a ribbon Tuesday to officially open the new room inside the county courthouse to offer victims of domestic violence a safe space to meet with DVSSP staff or to file protection from abuse requests.

People who come to the courthouse for domestic violence services often have children with them, so the area will offer ample “safe space” for kids while a parent meets with DVSSP workers to discuss options or fill out Protection from Abuse paperwork.

The room is on the ground floor of the courtroom, down the hallway and to the right from the West Cherry Avenue entrance.
