Penn Highlands to host Santa and tree raffle event
Santa Claus will make his annual visit to Penn Highlands Mon Valley at 6 p.m. Dec. 17.
Children will have a chance to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate with Santa at the hospital in Monongahela.
“We are inviting all of the members of the community to come in,” said Corinne Laboon, system communications manager. “Kids can sit and talk with Santa, tell him what they want. We also have this display in the lobby of festive trees. They were all decorated by various hospital departments.”
Santa will also draw the winning tickets in the hospital’s Christmas Tree Raffle.
The artificial trees reflect various holiday themes.
“One is decorated with exquisite high-end pink ornaments,” Laboon said. “Some of them are so creative. Somebody took and cut off the top of their tree and put it on a woman’s black dress form so that the tree looks like a skirt. It’s just beautiful. They’re all artificial trees, so whoever wins them can put them up again next year.”
Tickets are still available and priced at $5 for six. Proceeds benefit hospital programs.
This event is replacing the hospital’s annual light-up night festivities, which had been held at the hospital for 38 years.
“We can’t really have light-up night this year because the parking garage is not safe and is undergoing repairs,” Laboon said. “We’re disappointed that we can’t do a light-up night, but our patient, visitor and community safety is our utmost concern.”
The garage is undergoing extensive repairs, including the replacement of corroding roof levels
Due to the closure of the garage, those planning to attend should park in the lot beside the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Center or the employee lot behind the parking garage.
