Babies and puppies helped spread a little holiday cheer Tuesday at UPMC Washington.

The hospital welcomed several babies Tuesday and dressed them in festive holiday outfits – a bright-red onesie and handmade gingerbread cookie hats.

“It is the best gift,” said Ellen Dillie of West Alexander, as her husband, Logan Dillie, held their daughter, Eliana, who was born on Dec. 22, weeks earlier than expected. “The outfits are cute, cute, cute,” she said Tuesday.

The hats were lovingly hand-knitted by volunteers from UPMC Pinnacle Foundation. The annual event is a highlight for staff and families during the holiday season.

VetPets of SWPA made a special visit to the hospital too, bringing smiles to the hospital staff and visitors with the nonprofit’s therapy dogs Tuesday.

The hospital then shared the “paws-itive” news that it will soon have its own therapy dog. The canine will provide emotional support, reduce anxiety, lower stress, and bring joy to staff, families, and children.
