A thin band of lake effect snow hovered over central Washington County for most of the morning and dumped 8 to 9 inches on the Canonsburg area, while areas north and south of there received only a couple of inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

Frey said he was thankful the snow was the “light and fluffy stuff,” which made shoveling easier.
