Cecil Township police arrested a man Tuesday night in connection with the theft of about $1,600 from a convenience store.

Russell Reed Kerr Jr., 51, of Cecil Township, faces a felony charge of robbery.

Surveillance footage shows Kerr cashing out for $45 and watching the employee store the box containing cash used for payouts, the complaint states.

He returned about an hour later, went behind the cash register and opened the safe containing the box, charging documents state, and then fled on foot.

According to the complaint, officers tracked footprints in the snow back to Kerr’s residence on Ridgeway Drive. Officers watching the house saw Kerr leave in his vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. and pulled him over on Millers Run Road.

Kerr allegedly confessed to the robbery and was found to have $1,603 in his possession.

Kerr was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge James Saieva, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $250,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 27.
