Recreation center with basketball, pickleball courts planned for South Strabane

South Strabane Township supervisors voted Tuesday to advance an application for a recreational sports facility near Tanger Outlets.
The board of supervisors voted unanimously to approve preliminary land development for Epi-Center LLC to construct the complex.
Kristin Hullihen, South Strabane’s director of planning and zoning, said it is planned to include a total of 21 pickleball courts – 15 indoors and six outdoors – and eight basketball courts. The basketball courts will also be able to be used for volleyball.
According to Hullihen, the structure will be separate from the mall itself and constructed in the southern end of the parking lot.
Earlier this month, the Washington County commissioners approved a $300,000 Local Share Account grant for Epi-Center.
The LinkedIn profile for Pittsburgh resident James Mendelson identifies him as the principal and operations manager for Epi-Center.
According to Mendelson’s LinkedIn, Epi-Center is also planning for a 24,000-square-foot space for a restaurant, bar, entertainment and events.
Mendelson did not reply to an email and social media messages by Wednesday’s deadline.
The Pittsburgh-based Civil and Environmental Consultants is serving as the engineer for the project. CEC did not respond to a phone call seeking comment.
Epi-Center and CEC hope to complete the facility by the end of the year, according to Hullihen.
Hullihen said the next step for Epi-Center will be to receive final approval for land development from South Strabane’s planning commission. The company is currently not scheduled to appear before the commission.
