A woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday morning after her vehicle fell about 20 feet from a restaurant parking lot into a retention pond.

South Strabane Fire Department Chief Jordan Cramer said shortly after 8:30 a.m. a vehicle went through a fence at the LongHorn Steakhouse on Route 19 and landed on its roof.

“We arrived to find a break in the fence, which indicated the vehicle had gone over a retaining wall about 20 to 25 feet (from the ground),” Cramer said.

First responders could only access the vehicle by going through the retention pond from Route 19. Cramer said the woman had “significant injuries” that required a helicopter to transport her to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Further information on the woman’s identity and her condition were not immediately available.

According to Cramer, investigators do not know what caused the vehicle to go over the ledge.

No other injuries were reported.

Also responding to the crash were North Strabane Fire Department, South Strabane police and Ambulance and Chair EMS.
