California man pleads guilty in fatal Greene crash
A California Borough man pleaded guilty Tuesday to homicide by vehicle after killing another driver while speeding through the borough of Jefferson at more than 100 mph.
Arin Dyne, 31, had been traveling on Route 188 through Jefferson on July 16, 2024, when his pickup truck collided with a sport-utility vehicle driven by Linda Kay Morris.
At the time of the crash, Dyne was traveling from home to work at SCI Greene, he said in court Tuesday. He has since been suspended without pay.
Dyne had told police he was driving an estimated 60 mph at the time of the crash in an area with a 35 mph limit. Police determined he had been traveling at 101 mph just before the crash, slowing to 85 mph at the moment of impact.
Morris, 55, of Jefferson, was declared dead at the scene from injuries sustained after her vehicle was hit on the driver’s side.
Dyne was flown by medical helicopter for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.
With no prior record for Dyne, the minimum sentencing guidelines would be 9 to 12 months, with a maximum of seven years, said Greene County Judge Lou Dayich.
“The guidelines are basically trying to say that this is a county sentence, not a state sentence,” he said.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
