A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon when another driver crossed into his lane in Cross Creek Township and struck him head-on, state police report.

Zachary C. Strohmeyer, 37, of Avella, was traveling east in the 100 block of Vance Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. when the 17-year-old driver of a pickup truck heading west became “distracted” and crossed into the motorcyclist’s lane and crashed into him, state police said.

Strohmeyer was transported to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The teenage driver from Avella, who was not identified, suffered a minor injury in the crash and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

State police did not say if the teenage driver would face charges in the crash.
