A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon when he crossed into the path of a pickup truck in Cross Creek Township and struck the other vehicle head-on, state police report.

Zachary C. Strohmeyer, 37, of Avella, was traveling east in the 100 block of Vance Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. when he became “distracted” and crossed the centerline and crashed into a westbound pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old, state police said.

Strohmeyer was transported to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The teenage driver from Avella, who was not identified, suffered a minor injury in the crash and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
