A South Strabane Township teenager was killed early Tuesday morning after his vehicle collided with another, catching both on fire and shutting down Route 40 in North Bethlehem Township for four hours.

A report from Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco identified the deceased as 18-year-old Chayse Allen. He died at the scene, and another person was taken by helicopter to an unspecified hospital.

According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, the crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. near Route 40’s intersection with Valleyview Road.

According to the coroner, Allen was the sole occupant of an eastbound vehicle when it collided with a westbound vehicle. Both vehicles caught fire after the crash. Allen was declared dead at 7:41 a.m.

Route 40 was closed between Leatherman Bridge Road and Route 917 until about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

It is not known if Allen was wearing a seat belt, according to the coroner.

Responding to the scene were Ambulance and Chair, Cokeburg Fire Department, Richeyville Fire Department and Lone Pine Fire Department.

State police are investigating the crash.
