Police in West Virginia arrested Connie Sue Newberry, 53, of Waynesburg last week after she allegedly cut a man with a machete.

On Friday, officers were dispatched for a reported disturbance in which someone had been cut with a machete and was bleeding badly in front of Trinity Church on Willey Street in Morgantown.

Officers found William Hoard sitting on the sidewalk and bleeding from both of his lower legs, according to police, and bystanders were helping to apply pressure before an ambulance arrived. Hoard claimed Newberry had attacked him with the machete, which was found lying on the sidewalk, according to court paperwork.

Police said they found Newberry inside the church with a cut on her right leg.

Newberry was taken into custody and charged with malicious assault.

As of Tuesday, Newberry was being held at the North Central Regional jail in Greenwood, W.Va., in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
