Central Greene seeking auctioneer for sale of former middle school

The auctioneers will be doing the bidding.
The Central Greene School District Board of Education voted Monday night to put out a request for proposals for an auctioneer to sell the former Margaret Bell Miller Middle School building.
With the 97-year-old building showing its age and overall district enrollment declining, the district consolidated the middle school into its campus on Zimmerman Drive. Sixth-grade students are now in the elementary school building, while seventh- and eighth-grade students moved into the Waynesburg Central High School building at the start of 2023.
No date for the auction has been set, said Superintendent Matthew Blair.
The format for the auction will depend on who conducts it, but could involve a mix of in-person and online bidding, Blair said.
“We auctioned our warehouse that used to be over next to Fox Ford, and we had people physically there bidding on it, we had people that were remote bidding on it,” he said. “So usually those kinds of places do both.”
Proceeds from the sale will go into the district’s capital projects fund, said Business Manager Valerie Brooks.
