The suspected gunman in an attempted homicide case in Greene County was shot in the hand during a police pursuit in West Virginia on Monday.

Jonathan Trump, 24, of Maidsville, W. Va., had been on the run since June 3 before he was arrested in Harrison County.

His last known whereabouts were the Wayne Village apartment complex in Franklin Township, Greene County, where he allegedly shot Justin McElroy, 25, of Carmichaels, in the leg during what police said was a dispute over a dirt bike.

Around 10:30 a.m. Monday, officers from the Clarksburg Police Department began pursuing Trump, who was believed to be driving a stolen vehicle, in downtown Clarksburg, said West Virginia State Police Sgt. R.L. Glaspell.

During Monday’s pursuit, a police officer shot Trump in the hand, said Glaspell, whose agency is investigating the shooting.

About 11:10 a.m., Trump abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods near O’Neil Hollow Road in Reynoldsville, a community outside of Clarksburg, Glaspell said.

Harrison County sheriff’s deputies found Trump and took him into custody around 1:04 p.m.

Trump is still being treated for the gunshot wound to his hand, Glaspell said.

He was wanted for grand larceny and a parole violation in West Virginia. Once Trump is released, Glaspell said, his West Virginia charges will be put on hold so he can be extradited to Pennsylvania, where he faces charges of attempted homicide and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
