Interim superintendent named at Carmichaels Area School District
The Carmichaels Area School District is heading into the next school year with a new leader.
At Thursday’s meeting, the board unanimously approved the resignation of Superintendent Fred Morecraft and appointed Amy Todd as interim superintendent.
Morecraft, who was named superintendent in 2018, is resigning effective at the end of the district’s fiscal year June 30. He will be taking over as superintendent of the Bethlehem-Center School District in Fredericktown.
Todd had been assistant superintendent of financial and contractual services since rejoining the district full-time in November. She’d previously worked with the district from 2006 to 2017 as
its business manager.
Todd anticipated the board would decide at its July meeting whether she would remain in the role or they would launch a wider search. If they offer it to her, she’d be interested in it, she said.
“It’s an exciting time,” she said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. Carmichaels is a great school district, a great place to work. We have a great board, and I’m going to work my hardest and do the best I can to make everybody proud to be a Mic.”
It’s not her first time as an interim superintendent. She filled in from July to November 2020 while working at the Mcguffey School District in Washington County, where she was business manager.
Unlike that experience, she won’t spend her days preparing COVID health and safety plans and social-distancing measures.
As business manager, she’d worked on financial issues with the district, helping it prepare a balanced budget for the coming yet. Now, she said, her next steps will include working with staff to make sure the curriculum is aligned with state standards.
“We have a great staff here, and we’re going to be meeting as a team to figure out what directions and what we need to do to implement so that we can make Carmichael the place everybody wants to be,” she said.
