Washington expected to hire new city administrator
Washington City Council is expected to hire a new city administrator when it meets Thursday.
The agenda presented at council’s meeting Monday showed a motion to approve a new city administrator to start March 18.
The current administrator, Donn Henderson, plans to retire April 12 and served in the position since 2021.
Also, on the agenda for Thursday are the final readings of two ordinances – one to adopt the 2021 version of the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) and another to increase the fines for violations of the Quality of Life ordinance from $25 to $50.
The IPMC provides requirements for continued use and maintenance of building elements, site conditions, swimming pools, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems in existing residential and nonresidential structures.
The additional fee for the Quality of Life Ordinance will help to offset the costs of using a third party, Harshman CE Group, to enforce the ordinance.
The Quality of Life Ordinance involves a ticketing process for properties that may be in violation of property maintenance regulations.
Other action expected Thursday includes accepting the retirement of Capt. Carl “CJ” Martin after 23 years of service to the police department and promoting Lt. Von Lacock to the rank of captain.
Police Chief Steve Devenney said Monday that applications for new hires are being accepted until March 14 at 4 p.m.
Also, a city-wide cleanup is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 1. Dumpsters will be located at the maintenance shed.
