Pennsylvania American begins water line upgrades

2 min read

Pennsylvania American Water has started $10 million in water line upgrades in Washington and parts of Allegheny counties.

The work will replace 4.8 miles of water main to improve reliability, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting.

Work is scheduled for weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic restrictions in place.

“Providing reliable service to our customers means making continuous investments in our infrastructure,” said Tiffany Reed, senior manager of operations, Pennsylvania American Water. “We prioritize projects based on a number of criteria, including the need for larger mains to handle system demands, age of existing pipe and history of main breaks or service interruptions.”

During the projects, including several that started this week, company contractors will install new ductile iron pipes and replace aged water mains. The main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, along with final restoration and paving, is expected to be completed later this summer.

Areas targeted for work include:

City of Washington – West Prospect Avenue from South Main Street to Acheson Avenue, South Main Street from Park Street to Stokely Street, Stokley Street from South Main Street to Acheson Avenue, Acheson Avenue from Dewey Avenue to Redstone Lane, North Lincoln Avenue Avenue from Beau Street to Highland Avenue, Murtland Avenue from Locust Street to Ridge Avenue, Kennedy Avenue from Murtland Avenue to dead end and North Franklin Avenue from Hall Street to Church Street.

Peters Township – Pinewood Drive from Laurel Drive to Maplewood Drive and Squire Lane from Canterberry Lane to Lakeview Drive.

North Strabane Township – McClelland Road from Demer Boulevard to Anderson Drive, Greenwood Drive from Weavertown Road to House No. 255, Blue Jay Drive from Galley Road to Fair Meadows Drive and Locust Avenue from Garden Street to Locust Circle.

Monongahela – Second Street from Route 88 to Union Street.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
