Washington County is hosting its first ever real estate expo today with numerous seminars and speakers, along with a surprise announcement about the new anchor tenant coming to Washington Mall.

The event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Washington & Jefferson College’s Salvitti Family Gymnasium, is designed to attract real estate professionals, developers, corporate leaders and residents to learn more about what the county’s commercial and residential markets have to offer.

The speaker lineup will be highlighted by HGTV’s Hilary Farr, the internationally renowned designer and co-host of the television show “Love It or List It,” who will give her keynote address at 7:15 p.m.

The Washington County commissioners will speak just before that at 6:30 p.m. to give an update on new developments coming to the county.

That discussion on new development will likely include the announcement at 1 p.m., when Tony Rosenberger of Chapman Properties is expected to reveal a “major anchor tenant” for the Washington Mall during the economic development segment of the expo.

County officials said the main topics will include infrastructure, education, redevelopment initiatives and the cost advantages of living and doing business in the county. In addition to the speakers, there will be various presentations, discussion and an estimated 100 vendor booths set up around the gymnasium.

“We are excited about the real estate community gathering, where we will showcase the many advantages and opportunities of relocating your business or family to Washington County. We have a compelling story to share, highlighting our low taxes, top-rated schools, recreational activities, and high quality of life,” Washington County Commission Chairman Nick Sherman said in a written statement. “This event is the perfect opportunity to share it.”
