Fire destroyed a house in Cross Creek Township early Tuesday morning, although no one was injured.

Firefighters from a half-dozen departments were called to 321 Maple Road about 3 a.m. and found the home engulfed in flames, a Washington County 911 emergency supervisor said.

The crews were on scene for about four hours battling the fire, and no injuries were reported. A crew was sent out again shortly before noon when the fire rekindled, but those firefighters were able to quickly handle the situation, a 911 dispatcher said.

The Slovan Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the initial call by firefighters from Avella, Mt. Pleasant Township, West Middletown, Jefferson Township and Brooke County, W.Va.

The state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the blaze, which was not immediately released.

The American Red Cross was on scene to assist those displaced by the fire.
