The annual prayer breakfast usually draws about 300 guests.

The annual Washington County Prayer Breakfast will be held May 10 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 340 Racetrack Road, Meadow Lands. Doors open at 8 a.m., with breakfast and the program beginning at 8:30. The breakfast is hosted by Men of Honor Ministries, with proceeds supporting efforts of Neighbor 2 Neighbor.

The breakfast was established by Paul Powers, who died May 5, 2024, just one day after the 26th annual prayer breakfast. Powers was the founder of Men of Honor Ministries.

“His desire was to bring the Body of Christ together in the community and through that breakfast honor, thank and pray for various leadership groups in the community,” said Pat O’Brien, Men of Honor president. “Then, to cap it off, we have a tremendous keynote speaker to uplift and inspire those in attendance.”

This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Larry Goodrich, who has decades of experience serving in teaching, administrative and pastoral roles across schools, universities and churches worldwide. He has held positions including dean, professor and superintendent and also has coached basketball and taught in Singapore, Costa Rica and India.

“He has been all over the world, teaching and sharing the love of Christ,” O’Brien said. “I know he’s going to have a tremendous testimony to the way the Lord has guided his life in teaching young people and in administering them.”

The “Love God, Love Your Community” Award will be presented to Bill Burns, executive director of Neighbor 2 Neighbor. Neighbor 2 Neighbor provides thousands of people each year with clothing, food and the Gospel.

“Each year we try to pick someone who’s making a significant difference in the community, particularly when it comes to being a Christian organization,” O’Brien said. “On an annual basis, they literally help thousands of local residents in the government housing projects with food and clothing and also to lift them up with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. He’s a dynamic leader, and his organization is making a tremendous difference with people in need.”

There also will be special recognition for the Washington County Common Pleas Court judges and magistrates for the role they play in upholding the law and administering justice.

“Paul Powers always had a heart for our governmental leaders,” O’Brien said. “On a regular basis he reached out to commissioners and mayors and judges to meet with them, pray with them and talk with them and encourage them in the important roles they play. With Paul passing, we really wanted to bring the county judges and magistrates to the breakfast to be honored, recognized, thanked and prayed for.”

Music will be provided by local musician Jarrod D’ Amico, among others.

O’Brien also said members of Powers’ family will be in attendance, and his wife, Brenda, will offer a greeting.

“Those people who are looking to see the good in our community, people who are looking and searching for a deeper faith in the Lord, they’ll be encouraged in that,” O’Brien said. “It will be a delightful morning. As Paul Powers always said, it will be a special morning.”

Admission is $35 a ticket and $325 for a table of 10. Visit Ticket Leap or mail checks to Men of Honor Ministries, P.O. Box 1311, Washington, PA, 15301.
