A security camera will be installed in the lobby of the Washington police station.
City Council approved the purchase Thursday of the camera at a cost of $466.72.
Mayor JoJo Burgess cited two recent incidents – one at the treasurer’s office, another at the police station – in which city employees were treated disrespectfully by residents.
“If this type of behavior continues with residents, we’re going to shut those offices down and make you make an appointment or you’re going to have to do something different. We can’t keep putting our employees in danger of irate people. They’re just doing their job. If they have issues, take it up with either mayor or council, not with the employees.”
Also, Tristan Cooley and Bryce Shell were sworn in as Washington police officers Thursday. The pair fills vacancies created by recent retirements. Burgess said the department is now fully staffed.
Council also appointed Rodney Jones to a three-year term on the parking authority board, effective immediately. Jones replaces Paul Harton, who recently died.
