Communities throughout the country took time Monday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Among those was Monongahela, where the Monongahela Veterans Council’s Memorial Day Ceremony was observed at Monongahela Cemetery. The ceremony came after the city’s Memorial Day Parade. Mayor Greg Garry reminded those in attendance to “never forget those who fought for our freedom. The sacrifice they made is unbelievable.” John Koller, commander of the Mon Valley Honor Guard, was filled with emotion as he spoke, “These are our brothers and sisters. They fought for our country because they knew it was right.”
