The Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Carmichaels Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 104 W. South St. Carmichaels. Kadie Baker from BLUEPRINTS will be the guest speaker. Members are reminded to bring items for the troops and scratch-off lottery tickets for “All Things Christmas.” New members are welcome.

The Care & Share Thrift Store, 227 Third St., California, will be open Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Specials in November include: Nov. 6-7, 50% off of clothing for children; Nov. 13-14, 50% off of sweaters and sweatshirts; Nov. 20-21, fill a bag for $2. Carroll Township Volunteer Fire Co. is sponsoring a dance with country group Gone South on Saturday, Nov. 8. Tickets are $15. For more information, call 724-632-2110.

Long Branch Community Grange is seeking donations for its wreath auction. All of the money raised for each item will go toward the donor’s designated charity. The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the grange, 210 Chestnut St, Coal Center. There is no admission charge, but donations of winter socks will be accepted. Amwell Township author Erika Howsare will speak at Citizens Library, 55 S. College St., Washington on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. She will discuss her award-winning book “The Age of Deer: Trouble and Kinship With Our Wild Neighbors,” which was selected as a finalist for the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award this summer. Tickets are $5 and benefit the library.

There will be a free appreciation breakfast for veterans and first responders on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 8 to 10 a.m. at First Canonsburg United Methodist Church, 161 W. Pike St., Canonsburg.

The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethel Park municipal building, 5100 West Library Ave., Bethel Park. Anyone is invited. The program will be alternative hobby night. For more information, call 724-984-6611.
