Canonsburg residents may face small tax increase
Residents of Canonsburg look to be facing a small tax increase.
Advertisement of the preliminary 2026 budget is expected to be on the agenda when council meets Nov. 10, but council President Rich Russo said a .2 mill increase is included, raising millage in the general fund from 3.84 to 4.04 mills on a tentative $6,568,925 spending plan. The total millage in the proposed plan is 5.43 mills.
“We typically go up .1 (mill) in order to stay even with cost of living,” Russo said.
Russo said the average homeowner will face a tax increase of about $27 if the tentative plan is adopted.
He cited a number of factors toward the increase, including salaries and utilities, and a significant jump in health insurance.
“We’re in the middle of a health care renewal,” Russo said. “We’ll probably stay with the same carrier but adjust deductibles in order to help us maintain what is going to be a 5% increase in our health care coverage. That would be with adjustments versus a 13% increase if we would have kept everything else the same.”
Finance Director Jennifer Foster said work will continue on the budget until final passage, which is expected in December.
