World War II vet celebrating 103rd birthday honored

World War II Coast Guard veteran George Herwig, who recently celebrated his 103rd birthday, was honored during the Washington County commissioners meeting Thursday afternoon. Herwig, of Washington, was presented with certificates of recognition from Commissioner Electra Janis and state Sen. Camera Bartolotta, and then received a standing ovation from those in attendance. "Thank you for applauding me for getting this old," Herwig said, drawing a laugh from the crowd.
