Canonsburg delays advertising budget
A “minor” administrative payroll error prevented Canonsburg council from approving the advertisement of the borough’s 2026 budget Monday.
“It’s a $1,500 error that one of our councilmen (discovered),” said Rich Russo, council president. “It’s a minor, minor hiccup, but it’s a payroll error, which is kind of significant. It’s an administrative error that has to do with payroll and we have to get it ironed out.”
The issue was to be addressed Wednesday, when the staff returns to the office after being off for Veterans Day.
“We still have enough time to advertise it and pass it…” Russo said.
Millage is expected to remain the same as in the tentative budget. The tentative proposed $6,568,925 spending plan for 2026 includes a .2-mill increase, raising millage in the general fund from 3.84 to 4.04 mills. The total millage is 5.43 mills.
If the budget is adopted, the average homeowner will face an annual tax increase of $27.
Council also unanimously approved free parking in the borough between Dec. 9-23.
In a related move, a committee has been formed to investigate parking at Harry E. Hopkins Brewery & Kitchen at 546 Euclid Ave. A committee that will include councilmen Eric Miller and John Severine, as well as Borough Manager Angela Senay will explore issuing residential parking permits on Euclid and Perry Como avenues.
Council also approved a contract with N&N Landscaping for $249,749.40 for backwash sewer revisions at Town Park Pool.
