Crews recently began demolishing the 115-year-old building on Jefferson Avenue as the nonprofit organization that operated the facility plans to build a new recreation and community center on the site.
The nonprofit formed in 1926 and moved into the Brownson House in 1937.
The demolition was funded with the help of Washington County’s blight mitigation account designed to demolish dilapidated structures.
