Washington Area Robotics team competing in Western Pa. grand championship.

Members of the Washington Area Robotics team, which competes in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) LEGO League Challenge, recently finished in second place at the Upper St. Clair Terabridges Tournament organized by the Western Pennsylvania FIRST LEGO League.

The competition is for kids ages 9 through 15, and focuses on designing, building and coding LEGO robots to complete a variety of missions on a themed game board. The team members are Dashiel Brownlee, Emmett Dunn, Graham Dunn, Mark Gowman, Bella Gowman, Emma Gowman, Penelope Hamilton and Mason Hankins.

They will be competing in the Western Pennsylvania FIRST LEGO League Grand Championships on Dec. 13 at Aliquippa High School. Support for the team is provided by Citizens Library and Washington STEAMWorks.
