Waynesburg man pleads guilty to Fort Jackson attempted rape

A Waynesburg man has pleaded guilty to attempting to sexually assault a Greene County Department of Human Services employee at the department offices in May.
Timothy Hilverding, 36, said he had been under the influence of methamphetamine on May 7, when he went to the county’s Fort Jackson building in Waynesburg to speak with someone at housing services. When an employee took him into a conference room, he began behaving lewdly and attempted to assault the employee before a co-worker stopped him, according to court documents.
“Did you go inside the Fort Jackson building on May 7 and commit these crimes?” Greene County Court of Common Pleas Judge Lou Dayich asked Hilverding during his Wednesday plea hearing.
“Yes,” Hilverding responded.
After the incident, the county conducted a security review of its facilities. In September, commissioners approved the purchase of new secure access doors for the Fort Jackson and Ben Franklin buildings.
Hilverding has been held without bond since his arrest in May.
He pleaded guilty to attempted rape, aggravated assault, attempted sexual assault, indecent exposure, simple assault, false imprisonment, open lewdness and disorderly conduct.
The attempted rape and aggravated assault charges, first-degree felonies, carry a maximum sentence of 20 years. Under state sentencing guidelines, Hilverding would be sentenced to a minimum of seven to eight years for attempted rape, and four to five years for the aggravated assault.
Sentencing was scheduled to happen after 30 days to allow time for a presentence report to be completed.
Hilverding will be required to register as a sex offender. He is also scheduled to undergo a Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) evaluation within 90 days to determine if he will also be designated as a sexually violent predator.
According to the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board website, for that designation, an evaluator would have to determine Hilverding has “a mental abnormality or personality disorder that makes the person likely to engage in predatory sexually violent offenses.”
