A Pittsburgh man accused of using altered versions of a stolen check from Central Greene School District to cash nearly $10,000 at local banks will go to trial.

Dominic George, 38, appeared in Greene County Court of Common Pleas for a pretrial conference Tuesday.

His pretrial hearing will be Nov. 4, with jury selection scheduled for Jan. 16.

Judge Louis Dayich said he would set the date for a one-day trial by a separate order.

George is charged with seven felony counts, including theft and receiving stolen property.

He appeared at Tuesday’s hearing via videoconference from Allegheny County, where he is in a treatment facility affiliated with the county’s jail system.

His alleged co-conspirator in the case, Brandon Vuocolo, 33, of Pittsburgh, was sentenced to three to six months in jail with credit for 127 days served in August.

The two men are accused of altering a $6,498 check the district had intended for a vendor to cash more than $16,000 between them, according to court documents. The district’s business manager discovered the check had been taken after the vendor said they had not received payment.

Charges of forgery and theft of mail were dismissed against both men at their preliminary hearings.
