Uniontown man charged with raping 12-year-old girl
A Uniontown man is charged with rape after allegedly having sex with an underaged girl multiple times over a two-year period.
Joseph Martin, 28, allegedly began having sex with the girl when she was 10, according to his criminal complaint.
Most recently, Martin had taken the girl to a cemetery for sex after going to a movie together in Greensburg, bringing her back home around 1 a.m. Sunday, the complaint said. The girl’s mother told police she confronted her daughter for coming home so late. That prompted the girl to confess she’d had sex with Martin that night, police said.
In an interview with police, the girl said she and Martin had been having sex regularly for two years, according to court paperwork.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a license plate reader showed Martin had been driving on the path to the cemetery that night, while surveillance footage also confirmed the girl’s account of Martin buying condoms.
Martin is charged with the rape of a child, statuatory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of a minor.
Martin’s bail was denied on the grounds that he is a threat to himself and others. He is lodged in the Fayette County jail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.
