Canonsburg Council approved a motion Monday for work to replace the existing concrete pavement at the pedestrian crossing across West Pike Street.

Council unanimously voted to award a $72,543 contract to Verardi Landscapes LLC of Pittsburgh for the Streetscape Project.

“Within that (project) is the upgrading of our streetlights,” explained council President Rich Russo. “That will be a nice project going forward.”

Council also approved a motion to award a contract of $43,600 to Bioni Drilling LLC of Canonsburg for remediation work at Chartiers Creek. The work was expected to involve repairs to headwalls.

This is one of the final steps the borough needs to take to protect the creek banks. The borough needed to bring the area up to a satisfactory condition to make sure the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would assist if a flood should occur.

Council also scheduled a workshop for Oct. 21 to work on the 2026 budget.

Other motions unanimously approved by council included:

Trent McPherson was appointed to the Park Board;

Range Resources was granted permission to have a turkey fund drive from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 19 on the sidewalks at North Central and North Jefferson avenues;

Set trick-or-treat for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

Russo also said there will be a motion on the agenda in November to allow free parking in the borough for the weeks of Dec. 8 and Dec. 15.
