A Perryopolis man was arrested after allegedly cutting his girlfriend’s throat while holding her at knifepoint, then stealing money from her purse.

Police found Riley Capps, 26, Tuesday night after tracking his location via an app on the alleged victim’s cellphone, according to the criminal complaint.

Perryopolis officers were called to the home on Liberty Street about 6:23 p.m. Charging documents said the woman had been yelling to Capps from another room in the house that she was sick of him “constantly stealing money from my purse.”

Capps later snuck up from behind and pressed a kitchen knife to her throat, drawing blood, the complaint said. The woman told police she was able to place her hands under the knife and escape his hold, running behind furniture for safety.

At that point, the complaint said, she told him to “take whatever you want and leave, I’m calling the police.”

Capps took money from her purse and fled, the complaint said.

Following the location on Capps’ girlfriend’s phone, police found a witness who indicated she’d seen Capps run behind her garage, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police found him there, as well as what appeared to be several empty and filled bags of heroin, the complaint said.

Capps is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, simple assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Capps’ bail was set at $80,000. He is lodged at the Fayette County jail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
