Washington Council approves promotions

Washington council approved four promotions for its police and fire departments Thursday night.
In the police department, Lt. John Hritz was promoted to captain, and Sgt. Matt Karlowsky was promoted to lieutenant. The promotions took effect Friday.
In the fire department, Chad Weir and Joe Wasik were promoted to engineer. Those promotions took effect Thursday.
Also, Mayor JoJo Burgess reiterated the need for three volunteers for the city’s zoning hearing board.
Anyone interested in volunteering may get an application from Michelle Sperl, city clerk.
The board’s functions include hearing and deciding requests for special exceptions and variances, and hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged the zoning officer failed to follow prescribed procedures or has misinterpreted or misapplied any provision of a valid ordinance or map of the city.
The board consists of three members with staggered three-year terms who are appointed by council. They meet as requests are made and decisions are needed.
