Monessen plans third Wall of Fame ceremony
The Monessen City School District is having its third annual Wall of Fame ceremony on Oct 18.
Doors open for the event at 6:30 p.m. with a red carpet and complimentary dessert room after the induction ceremony.
This year’s Wall of Fame inductees are:
Educator – Randall Marino, Class of 1973: Marino taught in the Monessen City School District for 34 years, teaching at the elementary and junior high buildings. He also has served as principal at the middle school and high school.
Trailblazer – Stephanie Urchick, Class of 1972: After a career in higher education at Westmoreland County Community College and California University of Pennsylvania, Urchick started a consulting and training company called Doctors at Work LLC. In 2024-25, She served as Rotary International President, only the second female to do so in the organization’s 120-year history and the first woman from the United States.
Military – Stephen “Ron” Chromulak, Class of 1960: During his 21-year military career, Chromulak was involved in a number of hostilities that included, the Cuban Crisis, Vietnam War, Capture of the USS Pueblo by the North Koreans and the evacuation of the American and British Embassies in Beirut, Lebanon during their civil war. When he returned to Monessen, he worked with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a veterans service representative.
Professional sport – Charel Allen, Class of 2004: Allen played basketball at Monessen from 2001-04 and is the second leading scorer in WPIAL history and fifth highest scorer in state history. She attended Notre Dame from 2004-08, where she was the first player in Notre Dame history to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists and 200 steals. Allen played professionally in the WNBA, as well as Bulgaria, Turkey and Israel, and has been an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton and Notre Dame.
Government – Gary Caruso, Class of 1966: Caruso practiced law in Monessen and Rostraver Township from 1973-85. He was president of the Conference of State Trial Judges from 2000 to 2001. He also served as a Commissioner on the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing and as a hearing officer with the Disciplinary Board of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He served as President Judge of the Court from 2012 to 2014.
Inductees will be announced and recognized during halftime of the Greyhounds Oct. 17 football game.
