The reopening of South Main Street in Washington, which has been closed since Sept. 8 while under construction for pipeline work, is being delayed once again.

The state Department of Transportation announced Thursday that the section of road between East Prospect and Park avenues in the city will remain closed until at least Oct. 9.

Crews are relocating a Pennsylvania American Water pipeline ahead of the major construction project at the intersection to rebuild the Catfish Creek box culvert bridge scheduled to begin in the spring.

The road originally was supposed to be closed for only two weeks and was initially scheduled to reopen Sept. 19 before PennDOT announced the delay would continue until today. Once the roadway reopens Oct. 9, there will be single-lane closures in that area until the end of October.
