‘Little store’ sells big winner

On Thursday, Muhly’s Little Store in Clarksville was the luckiest place in Pennsylvania.
A state Match 6 Lotto ticket sold at the Greene County store won $1.05 million in Thursday’s daily drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced.
“Everybody’s excited,” said manager Loretta Wortman. “And I hope whoever (won) it can use it.”
The store, located at 137 Center St., gets a $10,000 bonus of its own for selling the winning ticket. Wortman isn’t sure what the money will go toward.
“The new owners, they redid the inside, and business is picking up,” she said. “I’m very happy.”
Muhly’s hasn’t been a stranger to lottery success. The biggest prize Workman can remember is a $230,000 haul from Mega Millions. And a Treasure Hunt player once won $50,000.
One regular customer buys about $70 in tickets each day, she estimated.
“We sell a lot of tickets — a lot,” Wortman said. “Even instant tickets. I’m very surprised, though, for a big one like that.”
The jackpot winner won’t be known until they come forward and the lottery validates their ticket. They have a year to claim their $1.05 million (minus withholding, the state notes).
“Whoever bought it, I’m sure they’re probably happy,” Wortman said.
It was also unknown Friday if the winning numbers — 11, 12, 13, 22, 30, 35 — came from man or machine. In Match 6, the player pays $2 for a ticket, choosing six numbers themselves or having them randomly generated. The computer then generates another two lines. Players can also win by combining all 18 numbers.
Players can buy up to 26 tickets for the daily game.
Whoever buys a winning ticket should immediately sign the back, state lottery officials noted. For more information on filing a claim, winners should go to palottery.com.
More than 43,900 other Match 6 Lotto tickets also won prizes in the drawing, the state said.
But one optimist who walked into Muhly’s Thursday came away with the jackpot.
“I hope it draws in more people to play the lottery,” Wortman said.
