1 min read

Highmark Wholecare will kick off its 2026 Farm-to-Family season in Monessen on Monday with a free, fresh produce drive-thru giveaway for up to 250 families dealing with food insecurity.

The food will be provided by Westmoreland Food Bank at 1 Wendell-Ramey Lane in the city starting at 1:30 p.m.

Through its food insecurity program, Highmark Wholecare will host 37 events this year with a goal of distributing 225,000 pounds of free, fresh produce to 10,000 families. The free farmers market events will be held in 12 counties in the western and central parts of the state.

Highmark Wholecare piloted the program in 2024, distributing 84,000 pounds of food to 3,500 families. Due to overwhelming demand and community impact, the program was expanded by 40% in 2025. Through the Farm-to-Family program, there has been 245,00 pounds of fresh produce given out to 11,000 families to date.

This year’s Farm-to-Family events will run through November.
