Cecil to seek funding source for Generations Room repairs
Cecil Township officials plan to pursue a range of state grants to complete necessary maintenance on the Generations Room after missing out on county LSA funding.
According to Supervisor Cindy Fisher, the room – part of the township building along Millers Run Road that regularly hosts Aging Services of Washington County and community events for seniors – is in “desperate need of repairs.”
The room needs fresh paint, new flooring and replaced furniture in several areas, including a new automatic door, Fisher said during a supervisors meeting last week.
Cecil Township authorized the aging agency to apply for a county Local Share Account grant in fall 2025 to complete a comprehensive upgrade to the room, but did not receive a funding award.
According to Aging Agency Assistant Director Michelle Manni, between 40 and 60 local seniors attend daily programming at the Generations Room. That includes daily lunch service and a host of other activities.
Manni said that while a new automatic door would be “nice,” county staff could get by with the current door if necessary.
Fisher said the township will not be deterred by the temporary setback, and is actively pursuing alternative sources of state grant funding in conjunction with Rep. Jason Ortitay.
Washington County Commission Chairman Nick Sherman said the county LSA board would be happy to consider a grant application from the township for a future round of funding.
The county awards around $13 million in annual LSA funding for a range of uses designed to provide direct benefit to local communities.
