The Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency is touting the booming economic impact from tourism last year, calling the county a “premier regional destination” for visitors.

The agency’s annual report compiled by the state indicated that tourism to Washington County generated $1.3 billion in total business sales and direct spending from visitors that topped nearly $765 million.

“Tourism in Washington County is not just about visitation, but also economic vitality, community development and quality of life,” Tourism Agency President Jeff Kotula said in a written statement. “The data in this annual report demonstrates the tangible return on investment our tourism efforts deliver for our partners, businesses, as well as the residents and municipalities across the county.”

The tourism industry also is estimated to have directly supported more than 8,600 jobs in the county, boosting the region’s workforce and helping to provide economic stability.

The agency invested $678,588 in tourism-related grants and sponsorships that helped festivals, events and destination development projects throughout the county.

And there is more of that to come this year with the America 250 celebration all year long. The tourism agency has already committed to distribute $1.65 million in funds through its “American Spirit” program, which is giving each of the 66 municipalities in Washington County a $25,000 grant to build a community-based project that will stand the test of time as an iconic remembrance of the country’s semiquincentennial celebration.

“From record economic impact to transformative community investments, 2025 was a hugely positive year for the tourism economy in Washington County,” Kotula said. “Our team continues to remain focused on expanding our reach, strengthening our partnerships, and supporting events, attractions and initiatives that will benefit both visitors and our communities.”

And tourism is expecting an even bigger boom in visitors later this month with the NFL Draft scheduled in Pittsburgh from April 23 to 25. That major event already has the region buzzing with restaurants, hotels and local attractions preparing for an economic boost unlike Western Pennsylvania has ever seen before.

This annual report was compiled by the state of Pennsylvania to showcase tourism’s importance to Washington County’s workforce and overall economy. The full report is available at www.heyzine.com/flip-book/4697fd1ce6.html.
