Summer Fade Away Festival comes to Southpointe
The annual Summer Fade Away Festival is coming to Washington County this week, promising an afternoon of family-friendly fun in support of the nonprofit Autism Caring Center.
The festival will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Southpointe Town Center at 1800 Main St. in Cecil Township, which will feature live entertainment, food trucks and other activities.
The festival was founded by Scott Snyder after his son, Nathan, who was diagnosed with autism 13 years ago. At the time, clinicians told the family that Nathan might never speak or attend public school. Nathan later began speaking and is now thriving in a public-school setting.
“The Summer Fade Away Festival is a way to celebrate summer while raising awareness and funds for services that support children and families with autism and other special needs,” Snyder said.
The festival will feature a number of resources and support services for people who have autism and their families. All proceeds from the event will support the ongoing advocacy, training, resources, support groups, teen programs and educational programming provided by the Autism Care Center.
“The Autism Caring Center was founded by two mothers of autistic children who understood firsthand how difficult it can be for families to find support, trusted resources and a place where they truly feel accepted,” Autism Caring Center Co-founder Kelly Cain said in a statement. “We provide one-on-one consultations to help individuals and families navigate autism services and connect with the resources they need. We also provide autism training for schools, businesses and community organizations to build greater understanding and inclusion.”
