Garden Club meeting
The Martha Washington Garden Club will meet Aug. 18 at noon at Laboratory Presbyterian Church, 23 Manse St., Washington. At 10 a.m., there will be a flower show wrap-up. Members are asked to bring ideas, questions and possible solutions, as well as a review of judges’ comments. The program will be Preserving the Harvest Past and Present by Kate Cunning, historian and Bradford House docent. The board will provide lunch. Dine and donate
A dine-and-donate day to support Mon Valley Paws will take place at the Trailside Restaurant, 108 W. Main St., West Newton, on Aug. 19. The Trailside Restaurant will share a portion of sales from 5 to 9 p.m. with MVP. MVP volunteers will be collecting pet food donations. Those donating pet food items will have an opportunity to win a $25 gift card from Pet Supplies Plus Belle Vernon. A basket auction, raffles and t-shirt sale will take place during this event. Yoga in the park
Mingo Creek County Park will host yoga with certified instructor Summer Voelker on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. This is an introductory yoga class, but all skill levels are welcome to participate. Bring a yoga mat or beach towel. The group will meet at the Mingo Creek County Park Group Camping – Log Cabin Area, which is located near the observatory. Free monthly dinner
First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg, at 161 West Pike St., will host a free monthly community spaghetti dinner Aug. 21 from 4-6 p.m. Takeout will be available until 5:30 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread/roll, dessert and beverage. A small food pantry will also be available.
Chicken dinner
Claysville Christian Church will hold a creamed chicken over biscuit dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. In addition to the chicken, the meal will include mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, beverage and dessert. Take-out will be available, and a love offering will be taken at the door.
Meadow Lands Food Pantry
Meadow Lands Food Pantry, 300 W. Pike St., announces an updated schedule for the pantry: Aug. 22, Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Executive director Rich Wingertsahn noted that the food pantry board of directors voted to continue their relationship with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. “The GPCFB has been a wonderful partner for us, and we see no reason to change this.”
Reunion planned
The Fetherlin/Hart reunion will be held Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Devore Farm Social Hall. Please bring a favorite side dish, vegetable or dessert and an item or basket for the auction. A bake sale is also planned, so please consider bringing some homemade baked goods ready for sale!
Mon Valley Paws meeting
Mon Valley Paws will host a general meeting on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at the ISMA Italian Club, 112 Seventh St., Monessen. All chairpersons, coordinators and event chairpersons will report on the progress of their committees and projects for the upcoming year. Dog swim
A doggie paddle event will be held Aug. 26 and 27 at the outdoor pool at the Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Monongahela, 5-6 p.m. Small dogs under 30 lbs. will swim on the 26th, and the 27th is for large dogs over 30 lbs. MVP will have an informational table at this event. MVP will collect pet food items. Those donating a pet food item will be entered in a drawing to win a Pet Supplies Plus Belle Vernon $25 gift card. The Association of University People
The Association of University People welcomes singles 55+, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for various activities and to meet new friends. Events include happy hour, brunches, lunches, dinners, meet-ups at live music venues and local wineries, picnics, a unique book group and day trips. Those interested can attend three activities as guests before deciding to join. A tattoo flash sale will take place on Aug. 29, noon to 8 p.m. at Lionheart Tattoo, 121 Main St., New Eagle. Lionheart Tattoo will be sharing a percentage of sales with Mon Valley Paws. There are no appointments; it is a first-come, first-served basis. Flash sheets will be on display at the shop and on the Facebook page. Cash only. Raffles will be available. Veterans Assistance Fair
There will be a Washington County Veterans Assistance Fair on Aug. 29, noon to 4 p.m., at Nottingham Township’s Sherwood Park. Meet local organizations that provide resources and services to Washington County veterans and families. Housing assistance, vocational training, recreation programs, service and therapy dogs, companion animals and bereavement support will all be on site to help improve quality of life.
