Peters Township High School tops regional high school rankings
Peters Township High School is the best high school in the Pittsburgh region, according to this year’s rankings by U.S. News and World Report.
Released as the school year gets underway, U.S. News and World Report placed Peters Township High School atop its regional rankings based on such metrics as its scores on state assessments, graduation rates and how well the school prepares its students for college.
“We are very proud of this ranking, as it reflects the hard work and dedication of our talented staff and students,” according to Dr. Lori Pavlik, the high school’s principal. “Peters Township teachers make a difference every day in big and small ways – from the encouragement they show to a struggling student, to the extra hours spent preparing engaging lessons.”
Pavlik continued, “As we begin a new school year, recognition like this is especially rewarding and serves as a wonderful reminder of the impact our educators have on students every day.”
Overall, Peters Township High School landed at No. 382 nationally, with Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., in the top spot of the 18,000 high schools evaluated. It was in ninth place in Pennsylvania. The best high school in the commonwealth, according to U.S. News and World Report, is the Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia.
LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News and World Report, said in a news release that the rankings “empower families with the valuable data and transparency they need to help make the best educational choices for them.”
According to U.S. News and World Report, Upper St. Clair High School is the second-best high school in the region, and placed at No. 426 nationally. South Fayette and Mt. Lebanon high schools are also in the top 10. Among other high schools in the region, Canon-McMillan was at No. 24, Uniontown Area High School was at No. 86 and Laurel Highlands High School was at No. 99.
