Monongahela woman dies in weekend house fire
A 75-year-old woman died in a house fire over the weekend in Monongahela.
The fire at the home at 502 Warne Ave. Extension was reported to Washington County 911 by a passerby at 10:49 p.m. Saturday. Initially, the home was believed to be vacant, according to a news release issued by the Washington County coroner’s office. The state police fire marshal discovered the remains of Linda Pankiewicz while investigating the cause Sunday morning, the coroner said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire at the house located off the Cemetery Hill section of Route 88. Both were treated at local hospitals and released.
Firefighters remained at the scene for almost five hours, the department said Sunday morning.
Assisting at the scene were Tri-Community EMS, and Monongahela, Bentleyville, Carroll Township, Charleroi, Collinsburg, Fallowfield Township, Gallatin-Sunnyside, New Eagle, Valley Inn, and Washington Township fire departments.
The fire is being investigated by Monongahela police and the state police fire marshal.
