Starpointe data center hearing set for Monday
Developer expected to detail project
Hanover Township residents will have another opportunity to learn about a proposed data center in Starpointe Business Park this week, after a conditional use hearing for the project was continued earlier this month.
The hearing, which will be held at 6 p.m. at the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Department at 9 Starck Drive in Burgettstown on Monday, Aug. 31, is expected to feature an in-depth presentation detailing the project.
If approved, the seven-building data center complex and attached power generation facility would occupy the majority of unsold land within the Starpointe Business Park, making it one of the largest data centers in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Representatives of Texas-based developer Prime Data Centers LLC had prepared a slideshow presentation for the first conditional use hearing on Aug. 5, but never got an opportunity to begin after the Hanover board of supervisors opted to continue the hearing following almost two hours of public comment.
More than 200 residents packed the VFD social hall ahead of the hearing, leaving latecomers spilling out into the lobby and parking lot as the rows of folding chairs filled quickly.
More than 15 residents came to the podium during a preliminary procedural step to voice their displeasure with the proposed data center campus, saying that it would cause an untenable increase in air, light and noise pollution in the community.
