A Uniontown man was shot and killed in the city Thursday night, and state police are searching for the teenage gunman, who was also charged with homicide nearly four years ago when he was a juvenile.

Lemaur Thompson Jr., 20, died from a gunshot wound to the head after he was shot on Dunlap Street in the city, Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said.

Aubele said Thompson and 18-year-old Braedon Matthew Dickinson were walking down the street when Dickson pulled out a gun and shot Thompson. Dickinson apparently went through Thompson’s pants pockets and took the contents, Aubele said.

Thompson was taken to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Fayette County Coroner Bob Baker said in a press release.

Investigators are unsure of the motive, but Aubele said Dickinson and Thompson knew each other.

“It’s still too early to tell, but both of these individuals have known ties to local gangs in our area, so we’re investigating that,” Aubele said, adding investigators are unsure whether they were part of rival gangs or in the same one.

An arrest was filed Thursday night for Dickinson, of Connellsville, on charges of homicide, robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon and reckless endangerment. Aubele said the affidavit of probable cause filed at District Judge Ronald Haggerty’s office was sealed due to the “danger posed to identified witnesses based on his violent nature and the fact he’s still at liberty.” Dickinson had not been apprehended as of press time Friday.

Aubele added that Dickinson was previously charged with homicide in Westmoreland County nearly four years ago when he was 14. He was among the seven people charged with homicide in the killing of 39-year-old Jason Raiford in New Kensington in July 2022.

Dickinson and another teen escaped from a juvenile detention center in Hempfield Township in December 2023, but were later caught in Uniontown. Westmoreland County authorities decided to prosecute him as a juvenile, so the court records in that case are sealed and it’s unclear how it was adjudicated or when he was released from custody.

Dickinson is facing charges in two separate cases from last year that include receiving stolen property and fleeing police from an Oct. 13 incident in Uniontown, along with a felony prohibited firearms charge in the city on Dec. 28, according to online court records. He was bailed out of jail Jan. 12 on a combined $30,000 cash bond, according to the records.

Dickinson is considered armed and dangerous, although it’s not known where he may be located at this time. Anyone with information on Dickinson’s location is asked to call state police at the Fayette County barracks at 724-439-7111.
