A domestic violence suspect from Brownsville now faces additional charges after allegedly asking his ex-girlfriend to tell police she was lying to get back at him.

The letter from Kevin Fields, 24, also asked Shelby Price to marry him, according to court paperwork.

Police said Fields sent the letter to Price in late January. She showed police the letter, which she identified as Fields’ from the handwriting, his criminal complaint stated.

Fields has been lodged in the Fayette County jail since December, when he allegedly locked Price in his home for four days, beat her with thick electrical cords and threatened to kill her.

Court documents filed in the new case listed the steps Fields told Price to follow. These included telling police she had hurt herself as revenge for his cheating, pleading the Fifth Amendment, and deleting photos and texts.

“Repeat what I write to you,” he is quoted as saying. “I will give the answers in letter.”

Fields underlined and starred several points for emphasis in the letter, which also devoted about three-fourths of a page to begging Price to take him back and marry him, according to the complaint.

Fields is charged with intimidating a witness. No preliminary hearing date had been set as of Wednesday.

He is scheduled for formal arraignment Thursday on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, terroristic acts and simple assault stemming from the alleged December incident.
